IVITE AGULERI COMMUNITY EMBARKS ON EROSION CONTROL: SEEKS MORE ASSISTANCE FROM THE GOVERNMENT.

By Dr Innocent Chidumebi Okonkwo.

Ivite Aguleri community in Anambra East local government area of Anambra state has embarked on gully erosion control to ease the suffering of the people of the community.

The project was funded  through a crowd funding program of the community under an Association, known as Ogene Ivite foundation.

The chairman of the foundation, Prof Michael Obiefune said the project is aimed at putting palliative measures to protect the only stream in the community, known as Iyiana stream.

"The job has been completed.  It took us time because of the topography of that place and now, the head of the iyiana stream has been secured and all the gully erosion sand cannot enter the stream again".

"We have done that and also made a platform where the water will be reserved for people to be fetching it"

He stressed that the community has spent millions of naira on this very project and will continue to seek the government's assistance in controlling the gully erosion.  He however lamented that his association has no financial muscle to complete the big project alone.

"what we did was just a palliative work to secure the stream".

Counting its achievements through the help of the funders, Obiefune disclosed that Ogene Ivite Foundation will continue to fund more projects in the community.
