EZE NDI IGBO MAYERA GHANA, NDIDI EKWALOR GINIKANWA ANNOUNCES DATE FOR 2023 NEW YAM FESTIVAL.
The Eze Nd’Igbo of Mayera Ghana, Ndidi Ekwealor Ginikanwa known as Onowu Akuabata has announced tomorrow, 30th September 2023 as date for his new yam festival in Ghana. He disclosed this in a statement today, Friday September 29th 2023 that the event is part of efforts to promote Igbo culture in Mayera Ghana and the diaspora.
Akuabata explained that his Lolo, Palace elders, palace secretary, Chiefs, and Ndigbo in Ghana would converge in his residence in Mayera Ghana, where they would be entertained by a renowned Igbo high life musician, Chibuike Ogidi (Eze Egwu na Ghana) to celebrate this year's New Yam festival
According to him, the New Yam celebration allows Nd’Igbo to come together to thank God for a fruitful farm season.
“The event is designed to showcase the rich Igbo culture and cuisine to the whole world; to this end, I am inviting all Igbo sons and daughters to this festival,” Onowu Akuabata “This will help others to know that we have a rich cultural background that dated back to several centuries before the advent of the white man.”
He added that this year’s event would give Igbos the opportunity to come together and celebrate the festival.
Onowu Akuabata who won several awards including the prestigious Ijele Ivite Aguleri title is a culture and peace ambassador. He described yam as king of crops, adding that its harvest season is worth celebrating.
“The occasion is especially important to us in the Ghana, as it will give us the opportunity to interact with our brothers, sisters, and children in our language. Igbo sons and daughters, who do not have the privilege to travel home to witness the event, will now be able to enjoy it here in Ghana,” he added.
