The residents of Ivite Aguleri community of Anambra East local government area are now celebrating the installation and activation of electricity power after over 4 years of total darkness in the area .
EEDC has finally restored electricity and it supply after the completion of the payment of N14.5 million outstanding bills owed by Ivite Aguleri community which was cleared by Ogene Ivite Aguleri foundation.
The Chairman of the light Committee, Engr Chikeluo Emmanuel Anagor said that Ivite Aguleri community has been in total darkness since last four years when the outstanding bills became so high that residents were unable to settle.
The community later got the intervention of Ogene Ivite Foundation and the bill was settled.
Since the light was fixed last two days, the community has been enjoying electric power supply.
He said all efforts are on top gear to ensure that the community is mitered to avoid a repetition of such outrageous bills in future. He therefore urged all the residents of Ivite Aguleri community to pay for their prepaid meters as the mitering of the community begins on December 2023.
Meanwhile, the chairman of Ivite Aguleri Rulling Council, Dr Fidelis Ndigwe has advised the community members to jealously protect the transformers and avoid overloading so that they would not go back to darkness once experienced for four years.
“We are so happy and grateful to Ogene Ivite Foundation, the chairman and other stakeholders for the efforts put together to achieve the reconnection of light to our community. The phenomenon of irregularities in power supply is what we pray to be resolved now. He warned that any person who allows his bulbs to be switched on in the day time will be seriously fined as that is a waste of the energy.
“Residents’ expression of joy cannot be overemphasized because of the relief from being in darkness and constant buying of fuel to do their daily businesses which has been taken away.” Ndigwe said.
