OMABALA COALITION GROUP CONDEMNS PROSECUTION OF OBIANO, DESCRIBES THE EX-GOVERNOR'S PROSECUTION AS POLITICAL PERSECUTION

A Coalition of Omabala Youths Association, known as Omabala Youths Vanguard, has described the prosecution of the former Governor of Anambra state, Chief Willy Obiano as “political persecution of the most vicious and cruel kind.” sponsored by the  Anambra State Government under Prof Charles Soludo.

Chief Obiano who handed over to Governor Soludo, is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for allegedly laundering N4 billion  through his aide, Mr Willy Nwokoye and using security vote to sponsor political activities.

However, the Group Chairman, CC Nweke in a statement on Wednesday condemned the prosecution of the Ex Governor, saying it is not only laughable but full of inconsistencies. Nweke pointed that Former Governor of Abia state and about 4 other past state Governors were investigated in the past and found culpable without arraignment and wonders why the interest is so high in Obiano's case.

He added that from the administration of late Chinwoke Mbadinuju to Peter Obi, that none had submitted a document to anti graft agency against the predecessor and wonders why Obiano who sponsored the election of the current Governor, Prof Charles Soludo should be treated with disdain.

“The case against former, Chief Obiano by the EFCC is really laughable and full of many inconsistencies. He was alleged of laundering N4 billion security vote through his aide, the charges were later dropped for more than three years due to lack of evidence. The current prosecution are largely sponsored by the current Anambra State Government under Prof CC Soludo. The evidence is seen through some documents that were filed in the court by the SSG of Anambra state.

“This is nothing but political persecution of the most vicious and cruel kind. None of the past Governors of the state had visited EFCC office, one wonders why the SSG of Anambra State should be submitting those documents to EFCC in a a case that was reported over three years ago, he has done nothing wrong, and his innocence will soon be established,” he said.
