Ogene Anuka Omabala music, named after the iconic ogene metal bell instrument, originated from Umuriabor Eziagulu Otu Aguleri. Ogbuevi Anuka Odili, a skilled ogene player, popularized the music by playing three metal instruments simultaneously.
The Mmeghe Age grade of Aguleri enlisted Odili to teach them the music for their traditional "Owuwa Iru" outing. Two notable artists were Late Añanti Aronu (Amerulu Ivite Aguleri) and Late Peter Ofordile (Umunoke Ivite Aguleri). Late Picolo of Mgboko Igboezunu Aguleri showcased the prestigious masquerade, while Chief Pius Meze Idigo of Eziagulu Aguleri promoted the music extensively, including a debut performance in Lagos.
Late Añanti Aronu married Iyom Obuko Irueze from Enugwu Otu Aguleri, having 13 children (5 surviving). Late Ogbuevi Peter Ofordile, from Umunoke, married from Oguta and had 4 daughters. He later married a second wife from Aguleri, fathering 2 sons.
Añanti passed away in August 2007, followed by Peter in 2008. Their music embodied motivation, warrior spirit, and encouragement for the well-to-do members of their age grade and beyond. It inspired hustle and brought out the warrior spirit in Omabala's men.
Although the legendary duo is gone, Ogene Anuka remains popular among Omabala's young age grades. However, recreating the magic of Peter na Añanti remains an elusive goal.
